The musician turned to event organizing, driven by a vision to build a vibrant stage for emerging artists to shine.
Sonwabo Manxiwa, originally from the Eastern Cape and now based in Gauteng, has carved a unique path in the music industry. After relocating to Gauteng in 2009, the same year he released his debut mixtape, The Dream Come True, Manxiwa performed at various venues across Thembisa and Midrand. His early years, however, were marked by frustration as he often attended shows without getting the chance to perform.
This experience drove him to make a change. βI felt obligated to help upcoming artists by providing a platform where they can showcase their art as often as possible,β he shared. In 2013, he founded Street Millionaire Entertainment, determined to offer opportunities to others who faced similar challenges in the industry.
Manxiwaβs vision grew over time. βFor years, we supported one or two artists annually, helping elevate their careers without charging them because my goal was for them to grow and become big superstars,β he explained. Seeing the demand for platforms like his, he expanded his efforts, organising more events to promote artists and protect their work.
Today, Manxiwa is a well-known event organiser, hosting the Meat and Cocktail Extravaganza twice a year. These events have become key gatherings for music lovers and offer a valuable stage for local artists. Manxiwa funds the events himself, ensuring that all participating artists are compensated, helping them earn a living and stay motivated for future opportunities.
