The Annual Fun Games and Music Festival at Makwassie Stadium, near Wolmaranstad in North West, turned into a fiery spectacle as disgruntled attendees set the stage and equipment ablaze. The damages are estimated at R3 million, with police now seeking public assistance in identifying the culprits.

According to North West police spokesperson Colonel AdΓ©le Myburgh, the chaos erupted after Limpopo-born artist Makhadzi failed to perform at the event. In her absence, an impersonator took the stage, further enraging the crowd.

β€œReports suggest that attendees were unhappy when the lead singer did not pitch up and went on a rampage. The stage and other equipment were burnt down to an estimated value of close to R3 million,” said Colonel Myburgh.

While investigations are underway, no arrests have been made. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the police crime stop number.

Makhadzi’s Team Speaks Out

The controversy took another turn when Makhadzi’s management team issued a statement clarifying her absence. They revealed that the festival promoter, identified as Ismael, had failed to meet the financial terms outlined in their contract.

β€œOn November 19, 2024, a contract was provided to the promoter, which specified that a 50% deposit must be received prior to any promotional activities on social media. Additionally, the full payment was required 14 days before the event,” the statement read.

While a deposit and an additional R3,000 for a promotional video were received, the remaining balance was never paid within the stipulated time frame.

β€œPlease note that Makhadzi and her travelling team are informed of events only after all payments have been confirmed, in accordance with the terms outlined in the contract. We did not receive the balance within the 14 days period,” the statement highlighted.

Despite the chaos, Makhadzi’s team expressed hope to reconnect with her fans soon.

Fake Makhadzi Goes Viral

Amid the turmoil, videos of the impersonator performing Makhadzi’s hits surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), prompting a mix of outrage and humor from fans.

  • @Lebogang_ML: β€œThey thought people won’t notice because tlabe ba tagetswe.”
  • @Monametsiii: β€œThey don’t want Makhadzi from @shoptemu.”
  • @karaboYakoena: β€œThe stage was literally ON FIRE!”
  • @IamOkuhle_: β€œWhy bring Makhadzi Lite?”
  • @Thapz__: β€œI’m not saying the violence was warranted but why bring out a Makhadzi from Temu? The organisers must take full responsibility.”

The incident has sparked debates over event planning, accountability, and the dangers of misleading the public with fake acts.

Call for Accountability

As investigations continue, the spotlight is now on the festival’s organizers. Fans and attendees demand explanations for the poor handling of the event, urging promoters to honor contracts and respect their audience.

For now, police and the public await answersβ€”and justice.
