Award-winning singer Brenda Mtambo has taken on an exciting new role as a board member of the Composers, Authors, and Publishers Association (Capasso). The 41-year-old musician was elected after presenting her manifesto alongside other candidates. For Brenda, this position represents a step forward in her mission to empower creators, especially women, in the music industry.
βMy passion for the business side of music and empowering artists is what drew me to this opportunity,β Brenda shared. As a board member, she is focused on making decisions that will directly benefit South African creators and support their growth in the industry. She believes that Capassoβs work is vital to ensuring fair compensation and opportunities for musicians.

Brenda is particularly dedicated to improving royalty collection and distribution for local artists. βWeβre working on creating better ways to collect money for our members and building relationships with international Collective Management Organisations to help our industry grow,β she explained.
Her career has already seen significant recognition, including winning her first South African Music Award (SAMA) for Best African Adult Contemporary Album for Sane. βWinning a SAMA was a huge milestone for me,β Brenda said. βIt means my work is being heard and appreciated, and itβs a great motivator to continue creating.β
Looking ahead, Brenda is working on new music and planning a tour. After taking a break this year to focus on her mental health, sheβs excited to return to the stage with fresh material. βNext year is all about new music and new shows,β she revealed, with a special performance planned for February.
