A 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Morwasetla village, Limpopo, in what authorities suspect was a dispute over an unresolved vehicle payment. The victim, who had sold a Ford Ranger bakkie to the suspect, was found dead on January 6, 2024, with a gunshot wound to his forehead. According to Limpopo police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng, preliminary investigations revealed that the victim and the suspect had been in a financial disagreement over the sale of the vehicle, with the suspect still owing an additional amount to settle the payment.

Reports indicate that the deceased had scheduled an appointment to meet with the suspect on the day of the incident. It was during this meeting that the victim was tragically shot and killed in Morwasetla village, which falls under the Bolobedu policing area. The investigation, which spanned over a year, involved various law enforcement teams, including the provincial Murder and Robbery Unit, as well as Tzaneen and Mopani tracking units. These teams carried out an intelligence-driven operation in the Mopani District that ultimately led to the arrest of the suspect on January 4.

The suspect, a resident of Matipane village, has been charged with murder and is expected to appear in the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court in the coming days. Authorities are continuing their investigation to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the victim’s death and to determine if there were any other factors contributing to the tragic incident.
