In a heartwarming display of kindness and generosity, a South African woman stuck in Dubai due to an unpaid loan has managed to raise over R114,000 in donations to pay off her debt.
Bongile Ntombela, who had been living and working in the UAE for six years, found herself trapped in the country after losing her job and being unable to continue with her loan payments. Despite being just months away from completing her loan, the bank imposed a travel ban, preventing her from leaving the country.
Determined to return home, Ntombela took to social media to share her story and appeal for help. Her plea did not go unnoticed, as thousands of people rallied around her, donating money and offering words of encouragement.
In an update on TikTok, Ntombela revealed that the bank had reduced her debt from 25,000 dirhams (R124,681.12) to 21,000 dirhams (R106,384.03). Thanks to the overwhelming public support, she was able to raise over R144,188, exceeding her target.
Expressing her deepest gratitude to all who contributed to her plight, Ntombela said, “Thank you to everyone who has given me a contribution, who has given me a call, who has sent words of encouragement. Ngiyabonga kakhulu (Thank you very much).”
Ntombela also thanked Clayson Monyela from the Department of International Relations and Co-operation for his instrumental role in helping her during her crisis.
With her debt now paid off, Ntombela is finally free to return home to South Africa, where she has secured a new job. Her story serves as a testament to the power of kindness, generosity, and community spirit.
