It’s been 10 long years since the tragic murder of Senzo Meyiwa, and yet, justice still seems elusive. The former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper and Bafana Bafana player was gunned down at his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s house in Vosloorus, East Rand, during an alleged robbery.

Despite numerous postponements, the case is still ongoing at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, with five men on trial for Meyiwa’s murder. The latest setback came with the passing of defense attorney Thulani Mngomezulu, who was representing one of the defendants, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya.

As a result, the trial has been adjourned to January 2025, with Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng advising Sibiya to find new legal representation or represent himself. Sibiya’s family, who have been financing his legal expenses, are reportedly struggling to pay the costs.

It’s heartbreaking to think that Meyiwa’s father, Sam Meyiwa, passed away in 2019 without seeing justice served for his son’s death. The delay in the trial has been frustrating for Meyiwa’s fans, who are eager to see closure in this high-profile case.
