The 7th installment of the Africa Rising International Film Festival (ARIFF) is set to take place on December 6th and 7th at Ster-Kinekor Cinemas in Rosebank Mall and Atlas Studios in Milpark. With the theme The Next Voices of the Continent, this yearβs festival promises to highlight the dynamic and transformative power of African cinema, showcasing the creativity and vision of filmmakers from across the continent.
Since its inception in 2018, ARIFF has positioned itself as a leading platform for African storytellers, amplifying their voices on both local and global stages. Festival president Lala Tuku expressed the festival’s continued commitment to celebrating African stories, saying, βThe 7th ARIFF is a celebration of cinemaβs ability to amplify African voices, while honoring the creativity of filmmakers who reflect the heart and soul of our continent.β
Lala also acknowledged the support of key partners like the Gauteng Film Commission, Ster-Kinekor, and Atlas Studios, whose continued collaboration ensures the success of the festival. βTogether, we are shaping a future where African voices are celebrated and amplified globally,β she added.
Festival director Ayanda Sithebe shared that the curated line-up for this year includes both Pan-African and international films, underscoring the remarkable evolution of African cinema. βARIFF stands as a beacon of hope, where bold voices and visionary filmmakers are redefining what is possible for Africa on the global stage,β she said.
In addition to film screenings, the festival will feature ARIFF talks, a digital hub, and the ARIFF Film Child Programme. βWe aim to inspire the next generation by showcasing authentic African stories that foster creativity and critical thinking,β Ayanda explained. Through initiatives like the ARIFF Film Child Programme, the festival ensures that young voices have the tools to express themselves and make a lasting impact in the world of cinema.
