“Young Gymnast Monalepelo Mojapelo Wins Amayanga Yanga Athlete of the Year Award”

Monalepelo “Pelo” Mojapelo, a promising young gymnast from Serengeti, Kempton Park, has quickly made her mark in the world of gymnastics. At just seven years old, she was honored with the prestigious Amayanga Yanga Athlete of the Year award at the Gauteng Sports Awards, which took place at the University of Johannesburg on 24 November.

Pelo, who trains with Gimfinity Gymnastics, has already accomplished remarkable feats in her short career. Most recently, she became a South African double-gold champion in tumbling and Euro-trampoline. Despite her tender age, Pelo’s achievements continue to impress, positioning her as a rising star in the sport.

As a Grade 1 student at St Dunstans College, Pelo expressed her excitement and gratitude upon receiving the award, stating, β€œI’m happy. The champ is here, the next Simone Biles. God bless everyone helping me in my journey, especially coach David Horswill, and several people who have been encouraging me, including Adri Koekemoer, Armand Koekemoer, Sam Vermaak, and my mum, Khosi Mojapelo.

Her mother, Khosi Mojapelo, proudly reflected on her daughter’s accomplishments, saying, β€œIt’s encouraging to see talent and hard work recognized at such a young age. Pelo is determined and self-driven, and with this attitude, I’m certain she’ll achieve all her dreams.”

Pelo’s father, Dr. Joe Mojapelo, also expressed his admiration for his daughter’s achievements. β€œWatching her achieve these successes fills us with joy and motivates us to continue supporting her dreams. As a dad, I’m in awe of my little angel and her achievements. She inspires me every day with her determination and passion.”

Dr. Mojapelo also shared Pelo’s ambitious goals for the future. β€œHer ultimate dream is to represent South Africa on the global stage and compete in the Olympics. She’s set her sights on the 2032 Games. It’s heartwarming to see her so focused and committed, even at this stage of her life. We’re excited to watch her grow both as an athlete and as a person. This award will inspire her to work even harder.”

With her unwavering dedication and clear vision for the future, Monalepelo Mojapelo is undoubtedly a young athlete to watch in the years to come.
