The expansive construction site is now secured by a 120-meter boundary wall, with the foundations of the clinic and drug treatment center already taking shape, as their walls rise steadily.
The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) is making significant progress on the construction of the Klipfontein Wellness Centre, a transformative initiative aimed at addressing drug and alcohol abuse in the Klipfontein View community, located in Ward 32. With construction now 30% complete, the project, commissioned by the City of Johannesburgβs Social Development Department, is set to provide much-needed support to residents affected by substance abuse.
Currently, the site is enclosed by a 120-meter boundary wall, with the walls of both the clinic and the drug treatment center already erected. The next phase of the build will focus on roofing, with the setting out of the attenuation pond also visible. Once completed, the wellness center will feature a 2,175mΒ² clinic and a 2,247mΒ² drug treatment facility, offering a range of services from healthcare to rehabilitation and aftercare for those struggling with addiction.

Beyond its medical and treatment services, the Klipfontein Wellness Centre is designed to be a community hub. The center will host various prevention and awareness campaigns aimed at combatting substance abuse, alongside recreational amenities such as a soccer field, playground, and running track. These facilities underscore the centerβs commitment to holistic wellness and providing a space for physical and mental health development.
In keeping with its mandate for sustainable development, the JDA has prioritized local employment and economic growth. The project has created short-term job opportunities for unskilled and semi-skilled workers, with 21 local small businesses (SMMEs) and four subcontractors engaged in the construction. JDA CEO Themba Mathiba highlighted the projectβs broader impact, emphasizing that the wellness center will serve as a long-term resource for the community, offering hope and a chance for young people and families to reclaim their future.
