On Monday, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued severe weather warnings for several regions across the country, forecasting significant weather disturbances over the coming days.
According to SAWS, strong thunderstorms are expected to affect parts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and the Eastern Cape, with the potential for widespread damage. The weather service has warned that these storms could bring destructive winds, heavy rainfall, and large amounts of small hail, posing risks to both infrastructure and communities. The affected areas include the southern portions of the Eastern Cape and southern KZN, where severe thunderstorms may cause damage to settlements, vehicles, and livestock.

SAWS further emphasized that excessive lightning, along with the possibility of localized flooding, could disrupt daily life, damage property, and impact agricultural activities. In addition to the storms, Gauteng is expected to experience cooler weather conditions.
“Severe thunderstorms leading to damage or loss of infrastructure, settlements (both formal and informal), property, vehicles, livelihoods, and livestock are anticipated, along with large amounts of small hail and excessive lightning across the southern region of the eastern half of the Eastern Cape, as well as the southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal,” SAWS said in a statement.
Residents in these affected areas are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, and updates will be provided as the weather develops.
