Mamelodi Sundowns have secured the signing of promising South African youngster and super-winger Sechaba Gaseitsiwe, beating rivals Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and four other Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs to the 17-year-old’s signature. Gaseitsiwe, who was a standout performer at the 2024 Engen Knockout Champ of Champs tournament, has joined Sundowns from Northern Cape amateur side Galeshewe Stars for an undisclosed fee.

Gaseitsiwe made waves at the Engen Knockout Champ of Champs tournament, where his excellent performance earned him the title of Best Forward, despite that Kaizer Chiefs won the competition. His performances in the tournament drew attention from several top-flight clubs, including the two Soweto giants, Chiefs and Pirates, as well as TS Galaxy, Stellenbosch FC, Sekhukhune United, and Cape Town City, all of whom expressed interest in signing the talented winger.

However, Sundowns emerged victorious in the battle for Gaseitsiwe’s signature, securing him despite the fierce competition from other PSL clubs. His signing is seen as a major coup for the Brazilians, who have been building a reputation for nurturing young talent.

For now, Gaseitsiwe will be joining Sundowns’ reserve team, competing in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC). His immediate goal will be to impress Sundowns’ technical staff with his performances in the DDC and earn a spot in the senior team. The young winger’s progression through Sundowns’ youth setup will be closely monitored, as the club has a strong track record of developing players and promoting them to the first team when they are ready.

Gaseitsiwe’s management representative, Nduvho Munyai, has described the youngster as “an exceptional talent,” praising his development at Galeshewe Stars, the club that helped shape his abilities. Munyai highlighted Gaseitsiwe’s potential, noting that he is one of the top players in his age group and that he comes from a strong footballing environment in Galeshewe Stars.

“The boy is a very special talent, one of the top players in his age group. He is a raw talent that comes from the Northern Cape. Another thing is that he has been in a perfect set-up in Galeshewe Stars,” Munyai said.

Sundowns’ investment in young talent is a clear part of their long-term strategy. While the winger will initially play for the DDC team, Sundowns have consistently shown their commitment to developing young players and providing them with opportunities to break into the first team. If Gaseitsiwe impresses during his time with the reserves, he could be given the chance to represent Sundowns at the highest level.

The club’s youth system, which has already produced some of the best talent in the country, looks set to continue fostering new stars, with Gaseitsiwe now poised to be part of that legacy.

At just 17, Gaseitsiwe’s signing marks the beginning of what could be a bright future in professional football. With Sundowns now in control of his development, the winger has the opportunity to grow within one of South Africa’s most successful clubs. His future prospects will be exciting to watch, particularly as he continues to gain experience and adjust to life at a big club like Sundowns.

As the new PSL season progresses, Gaseitsiwe’s progress in the DDC will be eagerly followed, and fans of Sundowns, as well as South African football enthusiasts, will be hopeful that the talented winger will soon make his mark on the senior squad.
