The dog survived the three-story fall but was left gravely injured, lying on the ground bleeding and struggling to move.
The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) has initiated an investigation into a disturbing incident at OR Tambo International Airport on November 8, where a tourist allegedly threw her dog from a balcony. The tourist, a French national en route to Brazil, had arrived in South Africa on November 6. On the morning of November 8, security footage showed her walking with her small black dog before lifting it and throwing it over the three-story balcony railing.
The dog survived the fall but sustained serious injuries, lying on the ground bleeding and struggling. Airport staff immediately alerted the Kempton Park SPCA, and inspectors rushed to the scene. Veterinary professionals confirmed that the dog had suffered severe internal injuries and had to be humanely euthanized.
Officials at OR Tambo International Airport suspended the touristβs connecting flight to Brazil and searched for her within the terminal. However, after reviewing the passenger manifest, they confirmed that she was not on the flight. The NSPCA quickly mobilized to pursue criminal charges with the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The NSPCA expressed profound shock over the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to justice. In a statement, they emphasized that anyone involved in animal cruelty would be held accountable, regardless of nationality or age. The organization vowed to continue its efforts to ensure those responsible face the consequences.
