Families Seek Justice for Soweto Boys Murdered Over Alleged Theft
The families of two Soweto boys, Tshidiso Ramatlo and Katleho Letseli, are calling for justice after their sons were brutally murdered over an alleged theft of VW Polo lights. The boys’ bodies were found in an open veld, disfigured and missing body parts, leaving the families in deep mourning.
The trial of Sandile Mbatha, the accused, is set to resume on Monday, 11 November, after multiple delays. Mbatha, a primary school teacher, faces charges of murder, and the families hope he will be sentenced to life in prison.
During a court sitting in April 2024, it was revealed that Mbatha was still employed as a teacher, which shocked both the judge and the courtroom. The revelation added to the families’ anger, as they felt justice had not been served.
Katleho’s mother, Petunia Letseli, expressed her frustration that the accused remains free while they continue to grieve. She hopes the trial will proceed without further interruptions, allowing them to finally get the justice and closure they desperately need.
Judge Nees Coertse expressed astonishment, stating, “I am shocked that he is still teaching.”
