Former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula made a brief but visibly emotional court appearance today, as her high-profile corruption and money laundering case was postponed to 21 November 2025.
Mapisa-Nqakula faces 12 counts of corruption and one charge of money laundering, stemming from allegations that she received kickbacks from a defence contractor during her time as South Africaβs Minister of Defence.
Her last court appearance was on 20 June, and while no new evidence was presented today, her emotional state in the courtroom was noted β a reflection of the intense personal and political pressure surrounding the case.
The long postponement signals the complexity of the investigation and prosecution, as the state continues building its case against one of South Africaβs most senior former officials.
As the country continues to reckon with political accountability, the trial is expected to be a significant test of South Africaβs commitment to rooting out corruption at the highest levels.
