A traditional healer from Mozambique is expected to appear before the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court following an ongoing investigation into the discovery of human remains linked to a 2023 case involving 20-year-old Gontse Makhubela.

The healer, who is also being investigated for possible immigration violations, was arrested in Winterveld, north of Pretoria. Authorities allege that he may be connected to a case involving traditional practices, with concerns raised about the use of human material in rituals known as β€œmuti.”

Makhubela was first reported missing in late 2023, and her remains were later discovered at a site in Elandskraal, near Brits. Two individuals, Serame Moroke and Samuel Mlambo, have already appeared in the Brits Magistrate’s Court in connection with the case. Investigators believe Makhubela may have been misled under false pretenses while working as an intern at a furniture store.

A key breakthrough came when police recovered her cellphone, which contained communication that helped link the suspects and guided the investigation.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone confirmed that the case is still active, and further developments may follow as evidence continues to be reviewed.

The appearance of the traditional healer in court is expected to draw significant public interest. Makhubela’s family and community, who have been waiting for answers for nearly two years, have expressed hope that the legal process will provide clarity and closure.
