The high-stakes bail hearing of alleged underworld kingpin Katiso “KT” Molefe took a dramatic turn in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, as prosecutors dropped explosive revelations linking him to a web of luxury assets, multiple murders, and a violent criminal network.
Molefe, the man accused of orchestrating the assassination of popular musician DJ Sumbody, appeared composed but defiant as the court postponed his formal bail hearing to 15 August 2025, allowing his legal team time to submit further documents.
In a bombshell disclosure, the State revealed that the same AK-47 rifle used in DJ Sumbody’s murder was also connected to at least three other high-profile killings—including DJ Vintos, Don Tindleni, and Armand Swart. Investigators say cellphone records and WhatsApp messages allegedly tie Molefe to the payments made to suspected hitmen shortly after the murders occurred.
Prosecutors painted a chilling portrait of Molefe as a man with deep roots in drug trafficking and contract killings, arguing he poses a serious threat to public safety. Several investigators and witnesses are reportedly under 24-hour police protection, amid threats believed to originate from Molefe’s alleged network.
The court also heard that Molefe owns two multimillion-rand properties in Johannesburg—one valued at R17 million, the other at R3 million—and claims to earn R200,000 per month from business ventures. He admitted to selling multiple luxury cars to fund his defence.
Adding to the intrigue, Molefe acknowledged a 1999 conviction for drug smuggling in the UK, which led to his deportation and a permanent ban from reentering Britain. His lawyers, however, argued the case is “decades old and irrelevant” to the current charges.
Molefe maintains he is not a flight risk, citing a previous grant of bail and his voluntary cooperation during his arrest at his Sandton mansion.
Magistrate Malesela Maake postponed the matter to allow Molefe’s team to submit a formal affidavit, disclose details of his passport and travel history, and clarify the origins of his wealth.
As the case unfolds, Molefe’s name is becoming synonymous with one of South Africa’s most disturbing intersections of celebrity, crime, and corruption—and the country is watching closely.
