Award-winning actor Zolisa Xaluva has successfully claimed R350,000 in unpaid salary from Seriti Studios, following a decisive arbitration ruling that exposes a contractual breach by the production powerhouse behind popular shows like Skeem Saam and Gomora.

Xaluva, best known for his commanding lead role in Code 13, took legal action after Seriti allegedly failed to pay him for completed work between March and April of the previous year. Despite having a contract that clearly outlined payment per shooting dayβ€”valid through the series unless renegotiatedβ€”Seriti reportedly withheld full compensation, forcing Xaluva to seek arbitration through the Arbitration Association of Southern Africa.

The arbitrator ruled unequivocally in the actor’s favour, declaring Seriti in breach of contract and awarding the full R350,000. But the victory hasn’t come without resistance. Xaluva was later compelled to approach the Johannesburg High Court to enforce the award after the studio allegedly delayed compliance.

Seriti Studios even launched a counterclaim against Xaluva, a move dismissed outright during arbitration proceedings. Despite the drawn-out nature of the dispute, Xaluva has remained composed, stating, β€œIn these instances, I am just a bystander waiting for my things to come through.” His legal representative, Modise Sefume, confirmed the enforcement efforts but declined to elaborate further.

This case is more than a personal winβ€”it may signal a turning point in South Africa’s entertainment industry, where actors often face delayed payments and contract disputes. Xaluva’s resolve and legal follow-through send a strong message: professional respect and legal rights must be upheld, no matter the status of the employer.
