Motheo Ngcukaithobi of the Progressive Forces of South Africa is demanding answers and raising alarm over the government’s handling of the reported death of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu on South African soil.
Ngcukaithobi has criticised the state for what he describes as a lack of transparency and procedural irregularities, warning that failure to follow proper diplomatic protocols could spark a serious international fallout. “There are glaring inconsistencies and disturbing levels of secrecy in how this matter has been managed,” he said. “This is not just about accountability — it’s about South Africa’s credibility on the international stage.”
According to Ngcukaithobi, the public has a right to know the circumstances surrounding Lungu’s death, especially given the potential diplomatic implications. He stressed that a full investigation and clear communication from the government are essential to prevent what he termed an “avoidable diplomatic crisis.”
