Transport Minister Barbara Creecy has taken decisive action by dissolving the Board of Directors of the Road Accident Fund (RAF), marking a major shake-up at the embattled entity. The move follows months of mounting pressure from Parliament and the public over persistent governance failures, financial mismanagement, and internal corruption.
The RAF, responsible for compensating victims of road accidents, has been plagued by leadership instability, with its CEO recently suspended and a full parliamentary inquiry underway into its operations.
Creecy said the decision was not taken lightly, but that fresh, accountable leadership is urgently needed to restore the RAF’s credibility and ensure it fulfils its critical mandate. “Victims of road accidents cannot continue to suffer because of dysfunction and mismanagement,” she said.
