Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has escalated pressure on President Cyril Ramaphosa to immediately fire Police Minister Senzo Mchunu amid mounting corruption and misconduct allegations.

Speaking passionately at the funeral of former Deputy President David Mabuza in Mpumalanga, Malema accused the ANC-led government of running like a “criminal cartel” and called for urgent action to restore integrity within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Malema’s demand follows explosive accusations from KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who alleged that Mchunu orchestrated the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team to shield politically connected criminals. Mkhwanazi also linked Mchunu to businessmen Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and Brown Mogotsi, involved in a R360 million SAPS contract tied to criminal syndicates.

Praising Mkhwanazi’s courage, Malema called for his protection and slammed the ANC as a “mafia state.”

President Ramaphosa, returning from the BRICS Summit in Brazil, has labeled the allegations a “grave national security concern” and is expected to address the nation soon. His upcoming speech will be closely watched as South Africans demand clarity and decisive leadership to confront corruption in SAPS.
