A high-ranking Mogalakwena Municipality official, 42-year-old Malesela Selokela, is at the centre of a deeply disturbing criminal case after appearing in the Mahwelereng Magistrateβs Court on July 2, 2025. Selokela faces a litany of serious charges including rape, two counts of attempted murder, kidnapping, malicious damage to property, common assault, and breaching protection ordersβallegedly committed against his estranged wife.
The charges date back to 2021, when the victim, now 34, left their marital home and initiated divorce proceedings. What followed, according to investigators, was a pattern of escalating violence that culminated in multiple life-threatening incidents. Selokela was arrested earlier that day by Waterberg District detectives in a coordinated effort that Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe applauded as both swift and necessary.
βAnyone who subjects women and children to abuse will face decisive consequences, regardless of their social standing,β said Hadebe, reinforcing SAPS’s firm stance against gender-based violence.
Selokelaβs case has been postponed to July 8 for a formal bail application. As the investigation unfolds, public attention continues to mount around issues of abuse of power, domestic violence, and the urgent need for accountability in all sectors of society.
