“Police Launch Manhunt After Awaiting-Trial Prisoner Escapes in Maake”

Authorities in Maake, Mopani District, have initiated an urgent manhunt following the escape of an awaiting-trial prisoner from police custody on Monday, 30 June 2025. The individual, 29-year-old Mola Matome Reuben Modiba, reportedly fled at approximately 13h30 while being escorted back to the holding cells after a formal court process related to a house burglary case.

The exact details surrounding Modiba’s escape remain under internal review, and police have confirmed that an investigation is currently underway to determine how the incident occurred.

A special team of detectives has been tasked with locating the individual. Law enforcement officials are urging members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid any direct contact with the suspect, who may pose a risk.
