“Highway Bust: R260,000 Dagga Haul Seized, Suspect Caught After Chase”

A 36-year-old man is behind bars after police seized dagga worth an estimated R260,000 during a targeted operation on Thursday, 26 June 2025. The bust, carried out by the Warden police’s Rural Safety Coordinator team, unfolded along the busy N3 highway and is being hailed as a major blow to drug trafficking in the region.

Acting swiftly on a tip-off, officers tracked a grey Ford Ranger believed to be transporting a large quantity of cannabis. After a brief chase, the vehicle was intercepted south of Warden. Inside the bakkie’s load area, police discovered tightly packed parcels of dagga.

The suspect, who was traveling alone, was immediately arrested on charges of dealing in dagga. He is set to appear in the Vrede Magistrate’s Court in the coming days. Police say investigations are ongoing to uncover the source and intended recipients of the drugs, with further arrests not ruled out.
