A man found with a gold bar worth a staggering R10 million is set to apply for bail next month, as questions swirl about the origin of the mysterious treasure. Itumeleng Dinku, 52, made a brief appearance in the Postmasburg Magistrate’s Court following his arrest after a dramatic police raid in the quiet suburb of Mountainview. Authorities had acted on a tip-off that someone was attempting to sell a gold bar—an unusual claim that led them straight to Dinku’s doorstep.

Inside the property, officers uncovered a massive gold bar hidden out of sight. When questioned, Dinku failed to produce a credible explanation for its possession, raising suspicions of illegal activity linked to gold smuggling or illicit trade. The estimated value of the bar—around R10 million—instantly drew attention from top-tier law enforcement.

The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team has since taken control of the case, intensifying the probe into what they believe could be part of a broader criminal operation. Dinku, who remains in custody, is expected to return to court on 7 July 2025 for a formal bail application.

With so much money—and mystery—involved, the case has captivated public interest and left authorities hunting for answers. Where did the gold come from, and who else might be involved? As the investigation deepens, all eyes will be on the courtroom come July.
