The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has formally distanced itself from a media briefing set to be held by its former secretary-general, Floyd Shivambu, tomorrow, Thursday, June 19, at the Mhulu Luxury Boutique Hotel in Midrand, Gauteng.
In a clear statement issued by MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela, the party emphasized that the event is not sanctioned, supported, or affiliated with any official MK Party operations. βThis is a personal initiative by Mr. Shivambu, and the MK Party has no involvement whatsoever,β said Ndlela.
Shivambu, who was ousted from his post on June 2 after undertaking an unauthorized trip to meet fugitive pastor Shepherd Bushiri in Malawi, has remained a controversial figure amid growing speculation over his political trajectory.
Sources suggest that the upcoming media briefing may mark his formal resignation from the MK Party and could serve as the launchpad for a new political formation, rumored to be called Mayibuye iAfricaβa nod to liberation-era rhetoric and an apparent attempt to attract disillusioned members from other radical political movements.
The MK Partyβs swift move to publicly disown the event signals a sharp break with Shivambu, once a prominent figure within its leadership ranks. As speculation intensifies, Thursdayβs briefing is likely to draw national attention, potentially reshaping the post-election political landscapeβyet again.
