In a new development in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, the defense for accused No. 3, Mthobisi Mncube, has successfully secured court approval for a dental examination aimed at discrediting a crucial part of the stateβs case.
Advocate Charles Mnisi, representing Mncube, argued that the prosecutionβs claim that his client had a gold tooth in 2014βthe year of the Bafana Bafana goalkeeperβs murderβis a key identification point used against him. The defense hopes that dental records or an examination could undermine that assertion.
The Pretoria High Court granted the request, with Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng authorizing time for the state to provide quotations for a private dental surgeon to carry out the procedure.
This latest twist further intensifies scrutiny of the state’s case, as the high-profile trialβalready delayed multiple timesβcontinues to raise questions about the reliability of eyewitness accounts and the strength of the evidence.
Senzo Meyiwa was shot and killed in Vosloorus in 2014, and the pursuit of justice for the national football icon remains a matter of deep public interest. The trial will resume on Thursday, 19 June 2025.
