Family Betrayal Leads to Shocking Arrest in VW Polo GTI Theft at OR Tambo Airport
In a twist that has left many stunned, Metro Police (JMPD) have apprehended a suspect involved in the theft of a white VW Polo GTI at OR Tambo International Airport. The shocking discovery revealed a betrayal within the family, as the suspect was none other than the ownerβs brother-in-law.

The unusual case began when the vehicleβs owner parked his car at the airport and boarded a flight to Cape Town. Upon his return, he reported his prized car missing, unaware that the thief was someone he trusted.
Thanks to advanced vehicle tracking technology, which played a critical role in the investigation, BMU officers were quickly alerted to the location of the vehicle, moving along Witkoppen Road. Acting on GPS coordinates, they traced the car to Isabela Estate, where a tense high-speed chase unfolded as the suspect attempted to flee.
The chase ended when officers intercepted the car and arrested the driverβwho, to everyoneβs shock, admitted to stealing the vehicle. The suspect, who was able to access the car with spare keys, had stripped the vehicleβs dashboard, likely intending to sell parts.
Though the investigation into the motive is ongoing, the family betrayal has shaken the victim, who confirmed that he had not authorized anyone to use the car. The breach of trust has left the family reeling from the painful realization.
The stolen vehicle has since been impounded at Aeroton Pound, and the suspect is currently in custody at Douglasdale SAPS as authorities continue their probe into the details of the crime. This case serves as a chilling reminder of how family ties can sometimes unravel in the most unexpected ways.
