South Africa faces a growing water and sanitation crisis as municipalities struggle to maintain critical infrastructure, jeopardizing the country’s ability to meet Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) by 2030.

The Portfolio Committee on Water and Sanitation voiced deep concerns over the sluggish progress, highlighting that neglected maintenance and aging systems are causing widespread service interruptions and health risks.

With millions relying on safe water and adequate sanitation, experts warn that without urgent intervention, the nation risks falling far short of its commitment to universal access.

This mounting challenge calls for stronger government oversight, increased investment, and innovative solutions to secure South Africa’s water future.
