BREAKING: Arrest Warrant Issued in Whistleblower Murder of Armand Swart

In a major breakthrough in one of South Africa’s most chilling whistleblower murder cases, authorities have issued a warrant of arrest for Lucky Molefe, the key suspect linked to the April 2024 assassination of 30-year-old engineer Armand Swart.

Swart, a rising professional at Q Tech Engineering in Vereeniging, was gunned down on April 17, 2024, just outside his workplace by two assailants in a white Hyundai i20. His brutal murder, described by investigators as an execution-style hit, stunned the Vaal community and spotlighted the increasing risk faced by South African whistleblowers.

Motive Tied to Explosive Transnet Tender Scandal

According to a News24 investigation dated September 10, 2024, Swart had exposed a staggering 4,500% price inflation in a Transnet tender. His efforts to reveal the alleged fraud may have made him a target for silencing, with the attack now believed to be retaliatory in nature.

The arrest warrant for Lucky Molefe, issued after months of investigative work, represents the first formal legal action in the case. While Molefe’s exact role remains undisclosed, police suggest he may have been either a planner or participant in the orchestrated hit.

A Nation Demands Justice and Protection for Whistleblowers

The case has reignited national outcry over the lack of protection for individuals who report corruption. Civil society groups and human rights defenders have long called for urgent legislative reforms to shield whistleblowers from intimidation, job loss — and, as this case tragically shows — murder.

“Armand Swart stood for truth, and he paid with his life,” said a community activist in Vereeniging. “Now, the least we can do is ensure those responsible face the full might of the law.”

Search Intensifies — Authorities Urge Public Cooperation

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has called on the public to assist in tracking down Molefe. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or report anonymously via the MySAPS app.
