A 39-year-old woman from Limpopo has fallen victim to a heart-wrenching dating scam, losing a staggering R650,000 to two foreign nationals who manipulated her trust and pretended to be in a genuine relationship.

The perpetrators, Serage Martin Lubenga and Rhoda Mirembe, used the funds to finance their extravagant lifestyleβ€”renting luxury properties and purchasing high-end vehicles, all while deceiving their victim into believing they were in a sincere romantic relationship.

Following their arrest, both Lubenga and Mirembe were sentenced to 20 years in prison for their fraudulent actions. They were also declared unfit to possess firearms, marking a significant legal consequence for their manipulation of both the woman’s emotions and her finances.

The case serves as a stark reminder of how criminals can exploit love and trust to further their schemes, with devastating consequences for unsuspecting individuals.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers of online relationships and the need for heightened awareness to avoid falling prey to manipulative scams.
