Nine boys have been rescued from an illegal initiation school in Gauteng, following a successful joint police operation conducted between Klipgat and Mabopane, located just north of Pretoria.
The boys, most of whom are from townships in Ekurhuleni, including Daveyton and Etwatwa, were reportedly abducted from their homes over the past two weeks. The first group of victims was taken around May 10, without the knowledge or consent of their parents.
π° Ransom and Threats
According to authorities, families began receiving ransom demands for amounts as high as R9,000. The perpetrators allegedly threatened that if the payments werenβt made, the boys would face harm or long-term psychological trauma. The demands sparked widespread panic and distress among families.

The rescue operation was the result of coordinated efforts involving:
- SAPS units from Ekurhuleni and Winterveld
- Community crime wardens
- The Department of Social Development
- Emergency medical services
Authorities acted quickly after appeals from worried parents and local community members, leading to the safe recovery of all nine boys.
