A brazen daylight cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery near White River erupted into a deadly gun battle yesterday, leaving one suspect dead, another wounded and under police guard, and several more on the run.

The heist unfolded with chilling precision as a group of heavily armed robbers ambushed a CIT vehicle, targeting it as it traveled along a local route. Security guards onboard responded with gunfire, triggering a fierce shootout that brought traffic to a standstill and bystanders running for cover.

Authorities confirmed that one suspect was fatally shot at the scene, while another sustained injuries and is currently hospitalized under armed police supervision. The injured man is expected to face multiple charges once released.
The remaining suspects managed to escape the scene, disappearing into nearby terrain. A widespread manhunt is now underway, with police combing the area and urging the public to report any suspicious activity.
βWe are following several strong leads and will not rest until all suspects are brought to justice,β said a spokesperson for the Mpumalanga police department.
Meanwhile, forensic teams are examining the crime scene for clues, and surveillance footage from nearby establishments is being reviewed for possible identification of the escapees.
