In a bold move in Parliament today, the Patriotic Alliance (PA) tabled a motion in the National Assembly, calling for urgent intervention against institutions like the Central University of Technology (CUT). The party alleges that such institutions are prioritising the employment of foreign nationals over qualified South Africans β a practice they say deepens the countryβs unemployment crisis.
The PA is demanding swift and decisive government action, arguing that South African institutions should first serve the interests of local citizens when it comes to job opportunities.
βIt is unacceptable that in a country with such high unemployment, public institutions appear to be favouring foreigners over our own people,β said a PA spokesperson during the session.
The motion has ignited debate over hiring policies within higher education institutions, particularly in how they balance the need for global talent with national employment priorities.
CUT has yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
This development adds to growing political pressure on public and private entities to prioritise local employment, especially amid South Africaβs ongoing battle with joblessness.
