Forensics to Reveal Truth as SAPS Reconstructs Final Moments of Constables Lost in Hennops River
As the memorial service for three fallen constables continues at Bobbies Park Hall in Bloemfontein, the vehicle they were travelling in—recovered from the Hennops River in Centurion—is now under intensive forensic analysis.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is determined to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths, which followed what is believed to have been a tragic accident on the N1 bridge.
National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, confirmed that investigators will be conducting a full crime scene recreation, a process he says is critical to understanding the final moments before the vehicle plunged into the river.
“The scene reconstruction will assist in providing clarity and answers for the families, colleagues, and the nation,” said Masemola, speaking outside the memorial venue. “We owe it to these young officers to determine exactly what happened.”
While mourners remember the constables with childhood images displayed around the hall, behind the scenes, forensic teams continue to gather and analyse evidence, piecing together a timeline of events that led to the tragic loss.
The SAPS remains committed to transparency and accountability, promising to share findings once the investigation is complete.
