Philanthropist’s Fast-Tracked Gift Changes Life for Vulnerable Family in Louville

In a powerful act of humanity and service, renowned philanthropist Collen Mashawana has delivered a fully furnished, modern home to Cynthia Nompumelelo Mkhonta, a 35-year-old blind single mother of four, transforming her life in just three weeks.

The emotional handover took place on 2 May 2025 in Louville, Ehlanzeni District Municipality, Mpumalanga, and marked another milestone for the Collen Mashawana Foundation, which continues to uplift South Africa’s most vulnerable.

From Mud House to New Hope

Cynthia lost her vision in 2022 due to illness and had been raising her children in a crumbling mud structure with the help of her older sister. The unsafe, cramped conditions posed a daily risk to the family’s well-beingβ€”until Mashawana stepped in.

Partnering with Metro FM, the philanthropist and businessman wasted no time. Within three weeks, a safe, dignified home stood in place of the hazardous shelter.

A Legacy of Upliftment

The Collen Mashawana Foundation, which has already built over 200 homes across South Africa, focuses on supporting persons with disabilities, the elderly, and child-headed households.

β€œThis is about restoring dignity and giving families a real chance to thrive,” Mashawana said during the ceremony, where tears and applause flowed freely.

National Impact, Personal Stories

This latest project has struck a chord with South Africans online, with many praising the Foundation’s speed, sincerity, and impact. Beyond charity, the initiative serves as a call to action for greater collaboration in solving the housing crisis and protecting the most vulnerable.
