Ramaphosa and Botswana’s President Duma Boko Hold High-Stakes Talks to Boost Regional Unity

In what is being hailed as a significant diplomatic engagement, the two leaders reaffirmed their nations’ shared commitment to deepening economic integration and confronting mutual challenges across Southern Africa.

“As neighbours and strategic partners, our collaboration is key to regional growth and stability,” said Ramaphosa during a joint briefing, highlighting the long-standing ties between South Africa and Botswana.

Trade, Infrastructure, and Stability on the Agenda

Key issues on the table included cross-border infrastructure projects, trade expansion, and regional peace efforts. Both leaders pledged to strengthen cooperation under the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) — an initiative they described as vital to Africa’s collective prosperity.

President Boko’s visit comes amid growing calls for greater regional unity in the face of economic pressure, climate-related challenges, and instability in parts of the SADC region.
