In a case that has shocked the community, three members of the same family appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrateβs Court on Tuesday, facing murder charges in connection with the death of 80-year-old Freddy George Willis.
The accused are the victimβs own son, George Kenedy Willis (55); his grandson, Kenny Rudolph Willis (29); and his 75-year-old wife, Nomvula Lucy Willis. All three will remain in custody until their formal bail application, scheduled for 6 May 2025.

According to initial reports, George Willis was visiting his elderly parents when he was ambushed outside their home by two balaclava-clad assailants. The attackers allegedly tied him up with a cable and then stormed into the house, where they shot Freddy Willis at close range before fleeing the scene.

The brutal killing prompted a swift response from local police, who opened a murder case and launched a high-priority investigation. After gathering evidence and conducting interviews, investigators arrested the victimβs immediate family members, who are now accused of planning and facilitating the murder.

Shocking Betrayal
The case has stunned locals, not only for its cold-blooded execution, but also for the alleged betrayal by those closest to the victim. Authorities have not released details regarding the suspected motive, but sources suggest family tensions and financial disputes may have played a role.
Police have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, and the possibility of additional arrests has not been ruled out.
As the accused prepare for their next court appearance, the case continues to draw widespread attention β both for its emotional weight and the dark questions it raises about trust, inheritance, and violence within families.
