The Joshlin Smith trial is set to enter its fourth day on Thursday, with significant developments unfolding as the case progresses. On Wednesday, Lieutenant Lincoln Sebola, the Station Commander of the Saldanha SAPS, took the stand and is expected to finish his testimony for the State. Following this, he will be cross-examined by the defense team.

One of the major moments to look forward to in the trial is an inspection in loco, where the court will physically visit the shack where Joshlin Smith lived with her mother, Kelly Smith, two siblings, and Jacquen β€˜Boeta’ Appollis. This inspection is crucial as it will give the court firsthand insight into the location where the crime allegedly took place.

While the courtroom drama continues, tensions are high as revelations of police brutality came to light on Wednesday. Both Steveno van Rhyn and Jacquen Appollis made shocking claims of being tortured by police during their arrest, which they detailed in their plea explanation. These bombshell statements have raised alarm and prompted public concerns regarding the treatment of the accused. Notably, members of the public have pointed out that, despite the seriousness of the charges, none of the accused were seen in handcuffs or shackles, which is typically the case in high-profile trials.

As the trial continues to unfold at the White City Multipurpose Centre, all eyes will be on the upcoming court inspection and the testimonies that are set to shape the future of the case.
