Police in Gauteng have initiated a manhunt for security personnel employed at the Zanzou nightclub in Pretoria after videos surfaced showing troubling incidents involving severe mistreatment of individuals. The videos, which were shared widely on social media, depict acts of harm and distress inflicted by bouncers on three individuals, who later reported the incidents to the Brooklyn police station. The footage, which has caused widespread concern, shows individuals in situations where they are restrained and filmed in vulnerable conditions.

Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, the provincial police commissioner in Gauteng, confirmed that the events occurred in 2023. He outlined that the investigation involves several serious allegations, including forced acts, assault, and unlawful restraint. Law enforcement agencies have since collaborated to address these issues and ensure that the nightclub complies with all regulations, while taking steps to prevent further occurrences.

Police have also encouraged others who may have been affected or have information about the situation to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation. Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the national police spokesperson, has urged witnesses or anyone with relevant knowledge to help with the case.

Wendy Alberts, the CEO of the Restaurants Association of South Africa (RASA), expressed her disbelief over the seriousness of what had been revealed. With decades of experience in the restaurant sector, she shared that she had never encountered anything similar to the troubling events that took place at Zanzou nightclub. As the investigation moves forward, authorities remain focused on uncovering the full details of the situation and ensuring accountability for those involved.
