Outrage has erupted in Limpopo following an incident at Masingita Crossing Mall in Malamulele, where an elderly man was allegedly assaulted by security guards for urinating in a public space. The disturbing attack, caught on camera, shows multiple guards involved in roughly handling the man and slapping him. The footage quickly spread across social media, sparking widespread condemnation from residents and social media users alike.
Many have voiced their anger over the security guards’ actions, with calls for them to be fired and held accountable. Community members expressed concerns over the treatment of elders, fearing that such incidents reflect a lack of respect for senior citizens. “This is someoneβs family member,” said Rachel Ngobeni, stressing the need for legal action. Others blamed the mall’s paid toilet system, suggesting that if the toilets were free, the situation could have been avoided.

The incident also drew attention from the Older Persons Forum, with provincial coordinator Happy Mogoboya urging the victimβs family to report the matter to the authorities. “People should respect elders,” she said, condemning the violent behavior displayed by the guards.
In response to the incident, the Masingita Group of Companies released a statement confirming that the security staff involved have been suspended pending further investigation. They emphasized their zero-tolerance policy towards violence. Despite the public outrage, Limpopo police confirmed that the elderly man has yet to open a formal case.
