A heartbroken mother, Maria Selepe, is enduring immense sorrow after the loss of five family members in a tragic accident in Harrismith in August 2024. Among the victims were her son, Tshokolo Mofokeng (35), his wife Anna Hlatswayo (32), and their three young children, Tumelo (10), Moleboheng (8), and Bokomoso (1). The familyβs bodies were severely affected by the fire, leaving Maria in an agonizing wait for DNA results to confirm their identities before she can give them a proper burial.

Maria has been waiting for over seven months to lay her loved ones to rest, and the ongoing delay has taken an emotional toll. The uncertainty surrounding the DNA results has left Maria feeling overwhelmed, with the weight of waiting becoming increasingly difficult to bear. The prolonged process has made it harder for her to find peace as she continues to grieve the loss of her family.

Authorities have asked for patience as the investigation continues. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring reassured the family that they will be notified when the DNA results are ready. While the wait remains challenging, the family is being urged to trust the process and allow the necessary steps to unfold.
For Maria, the delay is not just about waiting for a report; itβs about finding closure and being able to properly say goodbye to her loved ones. The emotional strain continues to build, but Maria remains hopeful that the results will come soon, bringing her the peace and closure she has been desperately seeking.
