Gogo Maweni, a well-known traditional healer, is currently embroiled in a legal battle that has raised concerns within her community. She is facing charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following an incident in 2019. After being granted R5,000 bail, her case has been postponed for further investigation, with her next court appearance scheduled for 11 February at the Protea Magistrate Court in Soweto.

Amid the ongoing legal issues, fellow sangoma, Solly Mathebula, also known as Gogo Mahlasela, has expressed deep concerns about Maweni’s spiritual well-being. According to him, there is a β€œdark cloud” hanging over Maweni due to her time spent in prison, and he fears this may impair her ability to provide accurate spiritual guidance. Mahlasela cautioned that consulting Maweni at this time could bring misfortune to her clients.

Mahlasela emphasized the importance of cleansing rituals to restore balance. He recommended that Maweni visit a river for purification and seek an inyanga to cleanse her spiritually. He also suggested that Maweni should suspend her services until her legal matters are resolved, allowing her ancestors the time to intercede on her behalf during this tumultuous period.

According to Mahlasela, Maweni’s arrest might indicate that her ancestors have abandoned her, and he warned that failure to cleanse herself could lead to even more serious problems. His predictions, based on bone readings, suggest that further legal troubles may be on the horizon, not only for Maweni but also for those close to her. He believes that if Maweni had the protection of her ancestors, she would not have ended up in this situation.
