A fisherman was tragically found dead with missing body parts in the Mogalakwena River in Arrie Village, Maleboho, Limpopo, on the morning of Friday, February 7. The man, later identified as Phuti Oscar Serumula from Arrie Village, was believed to have been fishing when he was attacked by crocodiles. Local residents discovered his body, and upon investigation, authorities found his hands and stomach were missing.

According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, preliminary investigations suggested the attack likely involved crocodiles. A provincial search and rescue team was called to the scene, where emergency medical personnel confirmed his death. The incident has prompted the police to register a case of inquest as further investigations continue.

Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe, Provincial Police Commissioner, issued a warning to residents, urging them to avoid rivers infested with crocodiles due to the inherent risks of swimming, fishing, or crossing these waters. This tragic event is not the first of its kind in the area, as residents have reported similar incidents in the past, with some individuals going missing after fishing in the river.

Local residents are calling for action, with some suggesting that the government should install a fence around the river to prevent further accidents. Community members, including Mmakwena Maleboho, expressed concerns over the dangers of crossing the river, noting that many people are forced to do so when traveling to neighboring villages and feel unsafe in the process.
