In Carolina, Mpumalanga, police arrested four men, aged between 35 and 51, on Monday, February 3, 2025, for allegedly impersonating officials from the Department of Home Affairs and committing a common robbery.

The arrests followed a complaint from a foreign national businessman who reported that the men had entered his shop, presented identification cards, and claimed they were conducting an official inspection for expired goods. The men allegedly coerced the businessman into paying R5,000 to avoid facing charges.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the police swiftly launched a search operation around Carolina after receiving the report. The suspects were eventually located and apprehended in another shop, where they were reportedly engaged in similar fraudulent activities.
Upon investigation, authorities confirmed that the individuals were not genuine Home Affairs officials. During their arrest, police found R5,000 in their possession, which was confiscated and will be used as evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Further searches led police to a vehicle allegedly used by the suspects during their crimes. Inside, officers discovered multiple number plates, a camera, and identification cards, all of which were seized for further examination.
Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane stated that police are collaborating with the Department of Home Affairs to verify the identities and nationalities of the arrested men.
The suspects are scheduled to appear before the Carolina Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to face charges related to impersonation and robbery.
