TV presenter and former convict, Themba “Skeem GP” Lukhele, is on a mission to motivate South Africaβs youth through his foundation. The Skeem GP Foundation aims to guide young people toward education and away from crime. Recently, Skeem GP spoke to local youth during a donation event at St. Albert Catholic Church in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, urging them to stay away from drugs and criminal activities.

At the event, Skeem GP emphasized the dangers of drugs, calling them a “new pandemic” sweeping through South Africa. He said many young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, turn to crime and drugs as a way to survive. He urged the youth to focus on their education, saying, “Crime doesn’t pay,” and highlighting how hard work and academic success can lead to better opportunities.
Skeem GP also expressed concern over the impact of drugs like nyaope, which he said have led many young people to drop out of school and ruin their futures. “We want the youth to have their minds renewed,” he said, stressing the importance of guiding young minds to make better decisions. He hopes to serve as a positive role model and inspire change in the community.
The event also focused on practical help for students. Florence Mphungwa, the event coordinator, spoke about the initiative to provide school shoes for children in need. The project began last year with 100 pairs of shoes donated and has grown to 300 pairs this year, thanks to the support of local schools in Vosloorus.
One of the grade 5 pupils who received new shoes expressed how difficult it had been to go to school with worn-out footwear. “I will walk tall and proud with these new shoes,” the student said. Parents, like Mbali Mokgongwane, also thanked Skeem GP for his inspirational role and support, saying that children need role models like him to make positive changes in their lives.
