Former PSL star Brilliant Khuzwayo has opened up about the long and challenging journey he took in search of a cure for the ankle injury that ultimately forced his retirement in 2019 at just 29 years old. The former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, who made a high-profile move to Orlando Pirates, revealed that despite his best efforts—including consulting numerous traditional healers—his injury ended his promising career prematurely.
Khuzwayo, who never made a single appearance for Pirates due to the injury, explained that he had traveled across Africa in search of solutions, visiting several traditional healers in the hope that they could help him recover. “A lot of inyangas I went to,” he shared, referring to the healers he consulted in various parts of the continent. Despite the extensive efforts, the injury proved insurmountable, ultimately leading to his retirement from professional football.
In an emotional interview, Khuzwayo also revealed that Dr. Irvin Khoza, the chairman of Orlando Pirates, had personally arranged for him to meet with traditional healers in an attempt to find relief. However, despite the extensive treatment and support, the injury persisted, leaving Khuzwayo with no choice but to retire from the game he loved.
