A tragic accident involving Sekhukhune United soccer player Shaune Mogaila has shocked the community, following a fatal head-on collision captured by dashcam footage. The incident, which occurred along Andrew Mapheto Drive in Tembisa on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, claimed the life of a nine-year-old girl and left two others critically injured. Mogaila, who allegedly fled the scene, later turned himself in and now faces multiple charges.

The harrowing footage, shared widely on social media, shows the sequence of events leading to the crash. In the video, a red hatchback, carrying a mother and her two daughters, ages nine and 13, can be seen driving in a southbound lane. A white Toyota Corolla follows closely, while another vehicle recording the scene drives nearby. Suddenly, Mogaila’s black car crosses from the opposite lane, speeding into the path of the red hatchback in a violent collision. The car with the dashcam swerves left in an attempt to avoid the impact, but the force of Mogaila’s car sends it veering, shattering its windshield.

The chaotic scene is further intensified by the sounds of distress from the occupants in the recording vehicle, their voices trembling in panic as the crash unfolds. Cars on the road continue moving past the accident, some drivers seemingly unaware of the unfolding tragedy.

According to authorities, Mogaila allegedly abandoned his vehicle and left the scene after the crash. Later that day, he surrendered himself to police at the Rabie Ridge station in Johannesburg, where he was charged with culpable homicide. Additional charges of reckless and negligent driving and fleeing the scene of an accident are expected.

Following the accident, emergency responders arrived swiftly, pulling the mother and her surviving daughter from the wreckage. Both were rushed to Tembisa Tertiary Hospital, where they remain in serious condition. Tragically, the nine-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving a community reeling from the loss.

Adding another layer to the case, first responders allegedly discovered open bottles of Don Julio alcohol, suspected cocaine, and dagga edibles in Mogaila’s car, which could result in drug-related charges. Mogaila is out on bail and is scheduled to return to court soon as the case proceeds, with further details expected to emerge.
