A multi-award-winning painter and sculptor has filed for an urgent court interdict to prevent his estranged wife from forcibly evicting him from their luxurious Bryanston home and allegedly depleting their joint estate, which is valued at over R10 million. The couple, who have been emotionally separated for two years, began their divorce proceedings on 15 November at the Johannesburg High Court.
In the court application, the artist claims that his wife has taken drastic actions to undermine his financial stability during the divorce process. He accuses her of attempting to sell their home without his consent, along with other assets, including a Range Rover worth R1 million and furniture valued at over R500,000. According to his legal team, the artist is concerned that if these actions are not stopped, he will suffer “irreparable harm” as his estranged wife continues to sell off property and deplete the estate before the divorce is finalized.
The artist states that the total value of their joint estate exceeds R10 million, which he claims to have earned through his work over five years of marriage. In his papers, he further alleges that his wife is demanding R70,000 per month for living expenses and R25,000 in child maintenance for their three-year-old daughter.
The artist also claims that his wife sold an apartment they owned in Johannesburg for R3 million without his knowledge or approval. He accuses her of disposing of assets without his consent, including properties registered under the names of others. The artist is also seeking shared responsibility for their daughter while the divorce proceedings continue.
While the couple has declined to comment on the matter, citing privacy concerns, the legal battle is likely to be a protracted one, as both sides prepare to fight over significant assets and family matters.
