Orlando Pirates claimed a controversial 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the latest Soweto Derby, leaving Chiefs supporters fuming after a questionable injury-time penalty handed the Bucs the victory.

The penalty, awarded in the dying moments of the match, saw attacker Patrick Maswanganyi step up and cheekily chip the ball from the spot, securing the win for Pirates in the 96th minute. The decision to award the penalty, however, has sparked heated debate—was it the right call, or did Chiefs get robbed?

While any late goal in a derby is sure to cause frustration for the losing side, it was the nature of the penalty that caused the uproar among Chiefs fans. Initially, referee Masixole Bambiso allowed play to continue when Relebohile Mofokeng managed to stay on his feet after a challenge. Mofokeng’s shot then went wide, but the referee decided to point to the spot, claiming Mofokeng was pulled back in the process.

This controversial decision led to an outpouring of anger from Chiefs fans, while Pirates supporters were left celebrating the dramatic finish. The penalty has certainly divided opinions, and the debate over whether it was a fair decision or not continues.
