Victor Boniface, the talented Nigerian forward currently playing for Bayer Leverkusen, has expressed his disappointment after not being included in the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year shortlist. The striker enjoyed a stellar 2023-2024 season with the Bundesliga club, where he made significant contributions both domestically and internationally. Boniface netted 21 goals and registered 10 assists across all competitions, and his performances were instrumental in Leverkusen’s impressive run, including securing a third-place finish in the Bundesliga and reaching the Europa League final.

However, despite his standout season, Boniface was not named on the shortlist for the prestigious CAF Men’s Player of the Year award. This left the player understandably disappointed, but he also took to social media to address the snub, adding a humorous twist to the situation. He jokingly acknowledged that his injury during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) might have affected his chances of being considered, but he didn’t let it overshadow his determination. Boniface even quipped that he could potentially win the “Memes d’Or” award instead, reflecting his light-hearted approach to the setback.

The exclusion, however, did not overshadow his respect for other nominees. Boniface congratulated his Nigerian teammate, Ademola Lookman, who made the final shortlist. This shows that despite being left off the list, Boniface remains focused on his own growth and future goals. With Leverkusen’s continued success in the Bundesliga and in European competitions, he remains a player to watch and a future contender for such awards.
